There is always something going on at Parker Ridge! Our full-time Certified Activity Director tailors events and activities to the desires of our residents. The schedule is full of a constantly changing array of group activities, guest speakers, educational classes, exercise programs, music recitals, art classes, ice cream socials, and day trips. You never know where our driver will take you on a full tank of gas. During the summer he takes residents to Acadia National Park on a scenic ride to the summit of Cadillac Mountain or to the Jordan Pond House for Tea and Popovers. This is a popular trip for sure! Many residents enjoy selecting or leading activities, assisting with events, or helping choose the destination for a lunch outing.
Our activity room is home to many art classes, and Bingo three times a week . Enjoy a game of pool, Uno, Rummikub, chess or bridge in the game room or step into the weight room, which features two treadmills, a recumbent bike, a Health Rider, and guidance and support from the Activity Director. Our regularly scheduled low-impact exercise groups are led by a certified instructor and target strengthening, balance, and conditioning.
Parker Ridge has an extensive network of 9 trails ranging from easy, wheel-chair-accessible paths to longer, more challenging loops and connecting trails. Visit ponds, geologic formations, and historical features on your wanderings, all the while enjoying the views, secluded spots, and the glory of nature all around.
When Parker Ridge opened its doors in 1992, some of our residents who love the outdoors formed a Walking Trail Committee. With enthusiasm for the project, they explored the property to build walking trails leading down to Parker Point Road and to the waters of Blue Hill Bay. Our adjacent neighbors have opened their trails to us, and nearby waterfront property owners allow our residents access down to the water.
Over the years a trail system has been built and maintained by resident committee members. Our facilities team helped build a bridge over a creek. Today residents enjoy numerous trails with different surfaces to walk on.
Ready to take a hike? Download our Trail Guide with Map to take along! The guide includes descriptions of each of the nine trails, including trail difficulty and distance and details of what to see along the way.
Living at Parker Ridge means enjoying Blue Hill's wealth of recreational and cultural opportunities. The 90-voice Bagaduce Chorale, Blue Hill Concert Association, New Surry Theatre, The Grand (located in nearby Ellsworth), and renowned Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival provide a year-round feast for music lovers. Local artists and craftspeople represent the peninsula's vibrant artistic community. Maine's coastline and islands offer endless pleasure to those who love sailing and boating, while woods and meadows lure hikers and bird watchers. The Blue Hill Peninsula offers many exciting opportunities for our residents to enjoy throughout the year. To learn more about Blue Hill visit their website at www.bluehillpeninsula.org.
